It\u2019s been at least four years since I\u2019ve used the construction, \u201cnearly half a million Syrians,\u201d or some such wording. The UN stopped collecting and analyzing the death-toll data in 2014. Two years ago, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the count at 560,000 people.
