A major Syrian human rights monitoring organization has reported a deadly attack on civilians in northern Syria, attributing the killings to the YPG/SDF. According to a statement released on Friday and reported by Syrian media, at least 22 non-combatants, three of them children, were killed in Raqqa province last Sunday.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights stated it had verified that none of the victims were involved in hostilities against the SDF. “The Syrian Network for Human Rights condemns in the strongest terms the direct targeting and killing of civilians,” the group said, describing the incident as a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the protections afforded to civilians.” The attack underscores the persistent dangers faced by civilians in conflict zones across Syria.
The rights group issued urgent calls for action following the reported killings. It urged all armed parties to uphold their obligations under international law to protect civilians from harm. Furthermore, the SNHR appealed to both national authorities and relevant international bodies to launch an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the incident. The group emphasized the need to identify those responsible and ensure they are held accountable in accordance with international legal standards.
