Terry Glavin: The world will pay for its indifference to the slaughter in Syria
As for the Syrian dead, nobody really knows what the tally is. It’s been at least four years since I’ve used the construction, “nearly half a million Syrians,” or some such wording. The UN stopped collecting and analyzing the death-toll data in 2014. Two years ago, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the count at 560,000 people. A separate organization, the Syrian Network for Human Rights, counts another 98,279 people who have been “disappeared” by the Assad regime into its dungeons.
